Aquatics Area
The Aquatics area provides opportunities in the water for Scouts of all ages. The program includes swimming instruction and swimming merit badge for younger Scouts up to the challenging and demanding BSA Lifeguard program. many Scouts enjoy canoes, row boats, and sail boats. Free swim and free boating are open to everyone at scheduled times during the week.
Handicrafts Area
The Handicrafts area is an excellent place to express your creativity and practice those art skills. Many of the badges in this area are excellent for younger Scouts. They include hands-on projects that the Scouts can take home at the end of the week. Generally a small fee is required to cover the cost of materials.
Ecology Conservation Area
The Nature Area features a variety of animals and displays for Scouts to observe. Scouts of all ages benefit from a wide range of merit badges peaking almost any natural interest.
Sports Area
The Sports area is a great opportunity to keep your Scouts active while at camp. Participants can choose between Golf, Personal Fitness, Athletics and Whitewater merit badges. This program is offered at both camps. Golf is an off-site program that meets each morning at the Camp Osage administration building. Scouts are then transported to a local golf course.
Life to Eagle
The Life to Eagle area offers older Scouts an opportunity to work on some of the more difficult, Eagle required merit badges. Scouts in the Life to Eagle Program will have an opportunity to choose from Citizenship in the World, Citizenship in the Nation and Communications merit badges. This program is now offered at both camps.
Scoutcraft
The Scoutcraft program is at the heart of Scouting. These scout-skill-packed merit badges are sure to appeal to the outdoorsman. After developing skills during the week, Scouts in Camping and Wilderness Survival merit badges take an overnight trip Thursday night to utilize what they have learned.
Shooting Sports
The Shooting Sports Area is the place for the marksmen. Archery, Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting merit badges are all offered by certified instructors. All ranges are located under covered facilities. Our 5 stand shotgun range with accompanying wobble trap offers Scouts and leaders varying degrees of difficulty while shooting. For safety reasons, these sessions are limited in size and are recommended for older Scouts. Night shooting is available at these lighted ranges.
Ozark Venture Programs
Kia Kima offers 4 distinct High Adventure programs. These programs are offered for both Camp Osage and Camp Cherokee. They are COPE, Ozark Climbing School, Mountain Man, and Ozark Ultimate Trek (OUT).
COPE is an acronym for “challenging outdoor personal experience”. All Scouts that participate in this venue will definitely have a challenging experience. Kia Kima boasts a world class COPE facility that will offer your scouts all the challenges and team building skills that can be had. Scouts will begin with low elements. This will give them a chance to build their teamwork skills. Once they meet this challenge, they will graduate to the high elements that will test their skills 40 feet off the ground!
The Ozark Climbing School is a half day week long program that will teach all the basics of climbing and rappelling on tower and rock faces. Scouts will have 4 days of training on Kia Kima’s brand new 55 foot climbing tower. This tower is a challenge for advanced climbers and will offer your Scouts all the thrills of hanging off rock faces 50 feet off the ground. There are 6 different climbing lanes and 3 free repel surfaces. Once the Scouts complete 4 days on the tower and adjacent traversing wall, they will then take a trip to Ravenden Springs. At Ravenden Springs, they will climb and repel in a gorge with cliffs over 80 feet tall.
The Mountain Man program teaches Scouts and Leaders all about life in the 1800’s. This program is situated along the top of lofty Masera Mountain. Masera, as it’s commonly called, provides a spectacular view of the Ozark Mountains, the South Fork River, and Kia Kima. While on the mountain Scouts will participate in a myriad of activities that include Blacksmithing, tomahawk throwing, Black Powder Rifle Shooting, primitive cooking, sweat lodges, and much more!
Ozark Ultimate Trek or “OUT” is our extreme high adventure program. OUT encompasses Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Backpacking, Caving, GPS navigation, Swiftwater Rescue and much more. Participants in this program camp separately from their units. Most of the activities included in the OUT Program will take place off the camp premises. Most of these locations are within one hour’s drive of camp. Mountain Biking and backpacking take place at the Syllamore Wilderness Area near Mountain View, Arkansas. Whitewater kayaking is held on the class II section of the spring river. Rock Climbing is done off site in the Ravenden Springs Gorge in Ravenden Springs, Arkansas.
